Well, that’s the festivities over, and we would like to wish you all a Happy New Year for 2008.

Workshops

From Monday 7th January for 10 weeks, the Youth Club will be holding drama workshops on both the Monday and Thursday evenings in conjunction with the Brinton Theatre.  The normal club activities will also be in place for those youths who do not wish to participate in the drama workshops.

We have recently received funding from the Co-op pharmacy community health fund to form a “Soup Group”.

Once a month for the next 12 months we will be putting together a soup recipe with vegetables that are in season in that particular month.  It is hoped that we will manage to make a different soup each month, so if anyone has any recipes out there, please let us know.

We will also prepare a page each month for our 2009 calendar which will have the different recipes for the soups that we have made each month.  The calendar and the best soups will then be sold at our Christmas fair in December.

We now have the youth cafe facility in place within the Youth Club.  Each evening hot and cold snacks i.e. toasties, rolls, wraps etc will be sold in the Youth Club.                 The youth cafe has been put together at the request of the youths.  This will enable youths to gain work experience in food preparation, taking food orders and also in using the till etc.  Leona, a Youth Worker within the Youth Club will be running the youth cafe alongside the youths.                                                                                               I hope that as many youths as possible use this facility, perhaps to have their supper prior to going home?  Unfortunately, if the cafe is not well used we will not be able to offer this work experience to our members, so please support the youths with this little venture.

C:\Users\Jackie\Pictures\Microsoft Clip Organizer\j0412580.wmfDuke of Edinburgh Award Scheme

We now have the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme up and running.  Jackie, Youth Club Manager, and Steve Nelson, Chair of the Youth Club, are qualified Award Leaders and will be running the scheme within the Club.                                                                                                                                                                                            It is hoped to offer the scheme to as many youths as possible, and youths will be accredited for activities run within the youth club, i.e. drama, youth cafe etc.  If anyone has any questions or queries regarding this please contact the youth club directly, on 07904964501 or speak to Jackie at the Youth Club.

 Re-opening

The Youth Club re-opens on Monday 7th January 2008, and we look forward to seeing everyone at this time.

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\MEDIA\CAGCAT10\j0297551.wmfGirls On The Move

We have secured funding through Youth Scotland to hold a girl’s group at the Penny pit on a Saturday morning.

The group is for girls aged 15-24 with special needs, who reside in East Lothian, non members of the youth club are also more than welcome to attend this group.  A programme is currently being put together for taster sessions in various forms of exercise, i.e. dance, pilates, walking, self defence etc.  A healthy snack will be provided, and it is hoped that all involved with the project will help in the preparation of the healthy snack.                                                                                                                     At the moment, the funding will only last for 10 weeks, to enable us to see if this is going to be viable.  If this project is successful, it is hoped that we will be able to run it on a permanent basis.                                                                                                                                                                                                                              The group will run for approximately an hour and a half on Saturday morning’s, and it is hoped that it will commence in early February.  Numbers for the group are limited, so please contact Jackie directly to book a place – 07904964501.

Club Fees

Club fees are currently £2.50 per week, and this also includes any weeks that a member is absent from the club.

Absent from Club

If you are ever absent from the club, it is advisable to inform the club as soon as you know you are not going to be there.  This is so that if there are any activities in place for that particular night that it is not held up waiting for a member who is not going to be at the club on that particular night.

Also, by informing the club that you are not going to be in ensures that your membership is kept open from you.  If you have been absent from the club for 3 weeks without getting in touch to let us know, then we will automatically cancel your membership and offer it to another youth who is on the waiting list.
